Recently, we ate Ginger Pork. Since my husband is from Japan and we live in the states we like to incorporate Japanese food. My husband is a great cook and I always enjoy his food. He made ginger pork a while back and the kids absolutely loved it. Since the kids do not like ginger we made two versions. One was made with ginger and green onions and the other without onions or ginger. Only one of my daughters likes the taste of ginger. We were out of oyakodon sauce, which we usually use, so we had to improvise. This makes it the perfect recipe that you can find at your local grocery store (in the Asian aisle)

Ingredients:

5 Tbsp- soy sauce

5 Tbsp- Mirin

5 Tbsp- Cooking Sake

Ginger to Taste

2 Green Onions

1 lb of thinly sliced pork (we cut pork chops thinly)

2 Tbsp Sesame oil

Making the Marinade for Ginger Pork:

Combine the soy sauce, mirin, cooking sake,, and ginger and put it in a bowl.

Directions:

Slice pork thinly and place it in the bowl of marinade. Let it marinate for 30 minutes to 1 hour or longer. Add sesame oil to a pan and place the pork and marinade in the pan on medium-high heat. Then add the green onions. Cover and lower the heat to low and cook the pork until it is done. Stirring occasionally. Serve with rice.

We also serve it with a cabbage salad (cabbage sliced thinly) with sesame dressing.

Making the marinade:

Hand slicing pork thinly

Slicing the pork:

Since we can not find thinly sliced pork, we thinly slice pork chops or pork loin ourselves.

Placing pork into the marinade

Place the sliced pork into the marinade. Marinate for 30 minutes to an hour (or however long you like)

Ginger pork and rice on plate

Add sesame oil to a pan and place the pork and marinade in the pan on medium-high heat. Then add the green onions. Cover and lower the heat to low and cook the pork until it is done. Stirring occasionally. Serve with rice.

Side dish of Cabbage with sesame dressing

We also serve it with a cabbage salad (cabbage sliced thinly) with sesame dressing.

A delicious easy meal

This dish is delicious and really easy to make. The salad goes really well with the pork. I would like to cut the pork thinly and freeze it so I have it on hand in the future. We also bought our green onions from the Amish. They always have fresh produce before everyone else. Plus, it is so much cheaper than buying at the store. This recipe is a keeper.
