Our Hafu baby (ハーフの赤ちゃん)

This little girl is amazing. I didn’t have any issues during my pregnancy except some back pain. I think I felt sick to my stomach a couple times, but I did get heartburn. I can’t remember anything that I really craved or had to have, but I do remember that I would not feel the greatest when I ate sweets. I don’t think Anya likes sweets. even now at 5 months if I eat chocolate she throws up. This is one of the hardest things for me to give up. I love my sweets and I love chocolate the best. While I was pregnant I continued to talk to Anya as to what I expected. you know the normal things:

  1. I wanted her to be born on Feb 5. because I want to get one extra paycheck and I wanted my maternity leave to end when Tomo graduated. I really did not think this would happen because my due date was Feb. 1.
  2. I wanted her to be a quiet baby that doesn’t cry much.
  3. Ok, really just those two things.

Birth:

Time: 8:07 pm

Weight: 6lb 6oz

Length:19.5 in

Because Anya was such a wonderful baby she granted me these two things.  She was born on Feb. 5 and she is an excellent baby. She likes the quiet and actually cries if there is too much going on. I love it. Actually, for a family of 7 our house is really quiet. She was born with these bright wide open eyes. She had her eyes open more than any other baby I had.  She had trouble breastfeeding at first, but by 4-5 weeks she was nursing. Those were a long 4-5 weeks. I figured she would eventually learn so we never gave up, but there were times I was disappointed that I was unable to get her to latch properly. I went to a lactation consultant, but did not really feel she gave me any more information than I already knew. She was a really good lactation consultant so I am happy we went.  Tomo bought her Jiji from Kiki Delivery Service (we love that movie) so this was her first toy. She had a little bit of jaundice, but she didn’t need anything special to get rid of it. We only made sure she ate every 3 hours. It was funny how my side of the family said she looked more Japanese and his parents thought more Caucasian. I can see a mix of us both. I had several people at different times tell me she looked like a porcelain doll. She really does have perfect skin.

One Month:

Weight: 9lb 2oz

Length: 21.1 in

She is growing so fast. by the time she was six weeks old she was sleeping through the night. She also started nursing and not wanting to take the bottle. Nursing was a struggle at first, but she finally got it. I can’t tell you how relieved I was that she started to nurse. She does not like loud noise and likes it quiet. Luckily, our house is pretty quiet. She is gaining weight. She took her first trip to Boston. This was also our first time taking her on a plane and of course did excellent.  We made sure that she used the pacifier or nursed when we took off and landed. We never had any problems with her ears. I have been enjoying my time on maternity leave. I never want to put her down.

Two Months:

Weight:11 lb 3 oz

Length: 22.75 in

She is doing amazing. She is in the 50th percentile for height and weight. She is doing great at nursing. There was a couple days when she didn’t want to eat and cried a little, but then she went back to being her perfect self. The kids absolutely love her.  As soon as they get out of school they come and hold her.  We took a trip and drove to Florida. Whenever we needed gas she needed to eat so it worked out perfectly. This was her first time to the beach  She stayed in the carseat and Tomo stayed with her while I walked the beach with Curtis.  She did excellent on this trip. I did make sure that I held her whenever we stopped.

  • This was the first time that Nate (Lower left) held his sister. he would not hold her because he didn’t want to drop her. He held her for just a minute. Upper Right, I found Tomo resting within hand in Anya carseat on the beach. It was too cute.

Three Months:

At three months Anya went to New York City, Boston, and then we flew to Japan. This was all in one weeks time, but through all of it she was excellent. I had a little trouble nursing her in New York because she like things quiet and in the same position, but other than that she was excellent. The flight to Japan went well except for some reason she wouldn’t really nurse like she did, but she was quiet. Once we got to Japan she wouldn’t use a bottle. I don’t think she could make up her mind, but thats ok. She had a lot of fun visiting her grandparents and other relatives. We were only in Japan for a week. I can’t wait to go back. We had our wedding ceremony while we were there. She also had her first visit to the zoo.  I went back to work after Japan and it was really hard. I love my job and want to continue doing it, but I miss being with her all day.

This was my Facebook status after our trip to Japan:

I have to say I have an amazing daughter. 13.5 hours of flight. I can say Anya behaved beautifully without crying once. She is 3 months old and has already been in 11 states and 2 countries. I think she likes traveling.

Four months:

Weight: 14 lb 10 oz

Length: 25

She is in the 75th percentile for height and weight.   She has been to Boston twice, New York City, Florida, and Japan. She has been sleeping through the night for a couple months. She wakes up with a smile in the morning when she sees me. She’s laughing more every day. She’s rolled over for both Tomo and my sister, but not for me 🙁 She is such a blessing to have.  She had her first taste of food. She has tried rice cereal, carrots, and peas. We only feed her one thing at a time for four days then we skip a couple days.  I think she liked the peas the best.

*Her big brother curtis is always holding. Ava wanted to be there the first time we fed her. She really enjoys feeding her.
