We visited New York City, for a day, on the way to Boston for Tomo’s graduation. The kids really like going to New York City and it was not that much out of the way so we decided to go. We had nothing in particular we wanted to see, but Tomo wanted to go to a music store and the kids and I wanted to eat ramen. OK, I really wanted to eat the chicken steam bun. Eating ramen was just a bonus. Yummy. We walked around the city visiting different locations. We stopped by Times Square and the Rockefeller Center. I love all the electronic billboards in the city especially at night.
We stopped by the beautiful New York public library. By this time we were getting extremely tired. We ended up walking almost 7 miles that day. We had never been to the public library before. I knew it looked pretty from the outside, but I didn’t realize how beautiful it was on the inside. We got there right before it closed so we were unable to stay long. Our next visit to NYC I would like to visit the library and take time seeing all the different art that’s there.
We ate lunch at Ippudo’s on W. 51 street. They are usually busy. I don’t think there has been a time where there was no line to wait in. We have always had to wait to get seated. They make these amazing ippudo’s buns (a steamed bun with chicken in a spicy sauce with lettuce and mayo. I could eat these everyday and never get tired of it.. Too bad it’s 9 dollars for two, but so worth the money. We ordered the Shiromaru Hakata Classic and Karaka-Men (Spicy). Ippudo’s ramen is one of the best I’ve had in the United States. We ate at an ippudo’s in Shibuya on our last trip to Japan and we actually liked the one in New York City better.
After lunch we stopped stopped by Uniqlo and Godiva. Happy Mother’s Day. We bought a box of chocolates for tomo’s mom. I love Godiva. My favorite is the oysters, mint coin, and the double dark chocolate truffle. I also bought some other chocolate which we left at the public library. Enjoy the Godiva. Whenever we are in New York we like stopping at this Japanese bookstore called Kinokuniya. The kids really enjoyed it there. Nate likes Attack on Titans and Pokemon. The girls like Pusheen the Cat.
We also love going to the MOMA store. We have been in the museum before, but we like shopping at the store. The girls bought a pen and puffy paint. Which after we got home Ava made Tomo and I a picture (She is just too sweet). The paint did not puff up the way the picture shows on the package, but she still had a lot of fun making it. That did not seem to bother her. We always like looking at all the different cool and modern items that are in the store. Tomo has bought me a necklace and salt and pepper shakers from there.
Even though it was a cool, cloudy, rainy day we had a nice time. I think next time we go I’d like to see more of Central Park and Washington Square Park. We were hopping to pack a picnic and go to the park, but the weather was not permitting. I really hope we are able to do that next time. I did not like my first experience in NYC, but I have loved it every time after that. I am really happy I decided to go back.
