Fun Day at the Zoo and Japanese Market

A couple of weeks ago we had a fun day at the Columbus Zoo and the Japanese Market. I brought my family along with my mom, dad, sister, and her family. There was a total of 15, six adults and nine children.  The weather was great and the experience awesome. It was a warm sunny day, but not hot. It was perfect weather to go to the zoo. We walked around looking at all the animals. We ate a picnic lunch under a gazebo. Our lunch consisted of sandwiches, chips, juice boxes, water, mandarin oranges, and cheese sticks. Yummy. We always enjoy packing a picnic when we do activities. The kids enjoy it more and it saves money. Win-win in my book. It is important to take time to have a fun day day with the family.

There we so many animals to see giraffes, bears, polar bears, cheetahs, reptiles, and many more. Nathan’s favorite animal is an elephant and he loved seeing the reptiles exhibit. That is my least favorite part of the zoo. I hate snakes. Gross!! I think the kids took 50 pictures of snakes so it would be on my phone. They know how much I hate snakes so they do whatever possible for me to see them.

Having a Fun Day at the Zoo While Taking Pictures

Olivia was in heaven looking at the cheetahs. She took lots of pictures and didn’t want to leave the area. Ava loved all the areas we visited. Ava and Olivia took lots of pictures. I think Curtis liked the little shops they had scattered along the park. I believe Tomo’s favorite was the polar bears. He wanted to have Anya’s picture taken with them. I always enjoy the fish aquarium they have there, but this time it was extremely busy. Maybe next time.

We bought an annual pass to the zoo so I can’t wait to visit again. We really enjoyed our time at the zoo. The kids always have so much fun at the zoo. Actually, so do I. It is really nice to take a break and enjoy something fun, We plan on going back this summer. Hopefully, the weather will be just as great. We had such a fun day with the family.

After the zoo, we stopped by a Japanese bakery and market. We don’t have a Japanese store around us so whenever we are in Columbus we usually pick up items from the Tensuke Market and Belle’s Bakery. The bakery has the most amazing desserts. We usually get a few to try each time we go there. Each dessert is wrapped in a clear plastic foil so they stay nice. In the end, we bought a strawberry shortcake, raspberry mousse, and a chocolate cake. I forgot to take a picture of the chocolate cake. oops.  All the desserts were amazing. We also ordered a melon soda float. I took one drink then the kids wanted to try. When it was handed back to me it was empty. I guess they liked it.

Food at the Japanese Market

We bought so many delicious foods at the Tensuke Market. Now we are able to make Okonomiyaki, Oyakodon, Ginger Pork, Gyoza, Onigiri, and the list goes on. Unfortunately, we can only get the ingredients at this store so we take full advantage whenever we go there. We also bought natto (fermented soybeans) and umeboshi (pickled plums). It makes me excited for our trip to Japan. More on that trip in another post.
